The instant I tasted these Smokey Air Fryer Chicken Wings, I knew it had to enter my monthly recipe rotation. They’re so simple to make! And the flavor payoff is completely worth it for the small amount of effort it takes. Toss them in the marinade and throw them into the air fryer and you’re good to go! Trust me – these are a crowd pleaser and you’ve got to try them!
A TON of spices and coconut aminos both add a surprising amount of depth, subtle sweetness and an amazing char. They seriously look like they’re fresh off a grill. Honestly, the hardest part of the recipe is measuring all the spices, but I think we can manage that, right? 🙂 The spice mixture below will also leave you with a double batch, so you can save it for another day!

What You’ll Need
Air Fryer – I absolutely LOVE my Cosori air fryer. It’s beautiful and is so easy to clean compared to the other air fryer I had before. I have the white one, but there is also a black one.
Large Bowl – To mix the wings & ingredients.
Tongs – To handle the wings with.
Other Notes
On garlic-infused olive oils, know that not all store-bought garlic oils are safe! Depending on the manufacturing process, some final products could end up with FODMAPs. More on that in this article by FODMAP Everyday. My favorite garlic-infused olive oil is by Garlic Gold, which I buy in bulk on Amazon for the cheapest per-price bottle. You can also purchase one bottle to try if you don’t want to commit to a 6-pack.
Looking for super crispy, almost-deep-fried wings? These probably won’t fit the bill. They’re slightly crisp around the edges, but the saucy marinade causes the wings to be a bit softer. Truly like they’ve been on the grill!
These wings cook in no time at all. A lot of air fryer chicken wing recipes I’ve found online state to cook them for 25+ minutes. Using a meat thermometer to check that the wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F, I’ve found that they’re done in 13-15 minutes. We want super juicy wings here, people! None of that dry stuff.
Enjoy! <3
Serve this with a side of tummy-friendly ranch, like my low FODMAP, Paleo Cool Cucumber Ranch recipe. Carrot and cucumber sticks fit perfectly. You can go the extra mile and tack on some sweet potato fries, like I did on this day.
These wings are Paleo, gluten free, added sugar free, low FODMAP and Whole 30-complaint – something for almost everyone!

Prepare the Spice Mixture (Enough for 2 Batches of 20 Wings)
- ½ tbsp ground ancho chile pepper

- ½ tsp fine sea salt

- Place wings in a single layer into the preheated air fryer, being sure to coat each wing in the marinade before placing into the basket.
- Cook in multiple batches if needed, for 13-25 minutes, depending on the size of your wings, until wings reach an internal temperature of 165°F. (Mine typically take 13-15 minutes).
Notes
- If using store-bought garlic-infused oil that is not certified FODMAP-friendly, make sure to use a brand that doesn’t list “garlic oil,” “garlic essential oil,” “garlic essence,” “garlic flavoring,” “natural roasted garlic flavor,” or anything similar in the ingredients list. There’s no way to know whether these ingredients are low FODMAP. More on that in this article on FODMAP Everyday.
